From football to soccer, Houston is home to many successful professional sports. The Houston Texans anchor the city’s fascination with sports and have established themselves as the most iconic part of Houston’s sports identity. Led by fan favorite J.J. Watt, NRG Stadium is packed with football fans during home games making attending a game an experience in its own.
Then there’s James Harden and The Houston Rockets – another huge part of Houston’s sports culture. The Rockets plays their home games at Toyota Center in downtown Houston and have collected two NBA championships and four Western Conference titles during their time in Houston. With the arrival of star player Harden in 2012, the Rockets soon became one of the highest scoring offenses in the NBA.
The Houston Dynamo are yet another professional sports team that the city has to offer fans. The soccer club was established in 2005 and quickly went on to win the 2006 and 2007 MLS Cups as well as the U.S. Open Cup in 2018. Then there’s this fact: In 2008, Houston Dynamo became the first American club to secure a point on Mexican soil during the CONCACAF Champions League.
Last but most certainly not least are The Houston Astros. The 2017 World Series champs play their home games at Minute Maid Park in downtown Houston and have established themselves as one of the American League’s top teams to beat this decade.
